Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday announced the squad for the ODI series against New Zealand, starting this month. After months of delays due to security concerns, New Zealand’s tour to Pakistan was finally approved and the Kiwis are set to play on Pakistani soil after 18 years. While PCB retained most of the players, who travelled to the West Indies, players like Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zahid Mahmood received their maiden call-ups.
Pakistan is scheduled to host New Zealand for a white-ball series which consists of a three-match ODI and a five-match T20I series slated to begin from 17 September which is also New Zealand’s first tour to Pakistan in 18 years.

While due to COVID-19 a lot of matches were held behind closed doors, what comes as good news for all the Pakistan cricket fans is that the upcoming limited-overs fixtures between Pakistan and New Zealand will see a 25% crowd.
“The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has approved 25 percent crowd attendance for upcoming Pakistan versus New Zealand series matches. The decision means around 4,500 spectators will be able to attend the ODIs and approximately 5,500 spectators will be able to watch T20Is in Lahore,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.

New Zealand are set to fly into Pakistan on September 11, the day after they complete their T20 series in Bangladesh. Notably, this will be their first tour to Pakistan after 2002.
The Black Caps’ tour of Pakistan in 2002 was cut short after a bomb exploded outside their hotel in Karachi on the first morning of the second Test. They returned to play ODIs the following year but have not been back since.
As the New Zealand board has named a second-string squad for the Pakistan tour and have rested their top players, a user from Pakistan seemed unhappy about it and shared a tweet regarding the same.
